In My Classroom: Sari Beth Rosenberg

A bunch of my students started calling me by my first name, “Sari,” instead of “Miss” or “Ms. Rosenberg.” At my school every teacher is either referred to as “Miss’” or Ms. + their last name, or “Mister” or Mr. + their last name. I find it so amusing that they enjoy saying “Hi, Sari” to me in the hallways. Additionally, I have always felt that respect is not earned by names or titles but by relationships. So, it really doesn’t bother me that they call me by my first name. I don’t need to hide between titles to have an impact on my students.
