Whole School Counsellor

Whole School Counsellor (F/T) from August 2022


To provide counselling support to pupils, staff and families as required across both the Prep and Grammar School. To take a lead role in supporting  the pastoral care of the school. To work collaboratively with all staff in their guidance and teaching roles to create conditions in which pupils can meet their potential. To network within and outside the school to ensure that individuals are assisted to find appropriate support and information and help for themselves. To help maintain a safe and inclusive atmosphere in the school. To act as an agent for positive change within the school community.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide Counselling of staff, students and families by meeting them when appropriate.
  • Facilitate group counselling sessions (e.g. grief, abuse survivors, anger management, smoking cessation, etc.).
  • Keeping appropriate records of counselling work, ensuring they are kept securely and confidentially.
  • Provide an annual report, including a statistical analysis of guidance counsellor activities, to the Headteacher and Senior Leadership team.
  • When appropriate, act as student advocate, e.g. at Pupil Discipline meetings, Case conferences
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including attending relevant training workshops and conferences.
  • Be involved in liaising with the community.
  • Liaise with outside agencies.

Required Attributes:

Bachelors’ degree in a related area of study. Professional Counselling qualifications

Commitment to the vision of the school in a demonstrable and proactive manner.

Strong interpersonal skills, tact, patience and ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.

Education: Degree and Professional counselling qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an education related field.

Professional Counsellor Qualification.

The School was established in 1967 to serve the needs of the British and Dutch expatriate communities in Jeddah. Today, JPGS welcomes expatriate and Saudi Arabian families alike, with students from a wide range of nationalities whilst retaining a family and community atmosphere. The School is heavily oversubscribed with waiting lists in almost all year groups. Children in the Prep School follow a modified version of the Cambridge Primary Programme; whilst the Grammar School prepares pupils for Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) IGCSEs and International A Levels.
