Doha College is a high-profile leading British International School in Qatar delivering a well-balanced, all-embracing English National Curriculum to students aged 3–18. The College was also the first High Performance Learning accredited school in the world. With 2,500 students and 350 staff, the school is a vibrant international community that subscribes to equal opportunities for all. An exciting time for the school, last year we moved to a brand-new, 90,000m² state-of-the-art campus, amalgamating two previous sites and ensuring the College’s place at the forefront of educational provision in world-class facilities.
We are looking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Cultural Studies and Humanities Teacher to start in August 2022. As a Humanities Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching Geography and/or History in Key Stages 3 and, possibly, 4, monitoring and evaluating student achievement and contributing to accomplishing the College’s vision and mission.
Cultural Studies is a new addition to the Key Stage 3 curriculum and will support the school’s mission to create globally minded students. In addition to teaching Humanities, you will also teach this new and exciting subject, working closely with the recently appointed Head of Cultural Studies. You will be working within a highly motivated, committed and supportive team focused on academic success and will be required to teach both History and Geography.
Alongside an academic focus, we also offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities, aimed at increasing learning of the subjects and promoting the uptake of the subjects at GCSE and A Level. For Geography, these include an Eco Club, strong links with the International Award Scheme and local and international field trips. For History, these include a mediaeval pop song contest and a bi-annual history trip to places linked to our syllabus, for example, Washington DC, Munich, and Auschwitz, as well as trips to the universities here in Qatar.
To be successful, you will be an outstanding role model within the College with a passion for helping our students to succeed.
You should have demonstrated success in your current role, be a highly motivated and successful practitioner in Cultural Studies, Geography and/or History, and be willing to contribute in a positive manner to all aspects of the College. A high level of subject knowledge and, above all else, a real passion for the subject is necessary. Cultural Studies, Geography and History classes are all mixed ability, with a high top end, which enables staff to make the subject accessible to all and, at the same time, be able to stretch the top end of the cohort.
A high standard of written and spoken English is an essential requirement for all our positions. Applicants should be willing to contribute in a positive manner to all aspects of the school vision, including co-curricular activities.
